MIL‑Spec (MIL‑M‑14) / ASTM D5948 Capability

Material compliance for thermoset molding compounds on legacy and new builds.

Many legacy drawings specify MIL‑M‑14. That military spec has been superseded by ASTM D5948, which preserves the familiar MIL‑M‑14 type designations and property framework. Ci‑Dell can certify materials and molded parts to ASTM D5948 while honoring legacy MIL‑M‑14 callouts.

When your print calls for MIL‑M‑14 or ASTM D5948, we can:

  • Molding and documentation to ASTM D5948 for thermoset compounds including phenolic, melamine, polyester, diallyl phthalate (DAP) and epoxy.
  • Material identity and property verification via supplier certificates and/or test reports.
  • Lot traceability aligned to purchase order, heat/lot, and part number.
  • Support for legacy prints: equivalency mapping from MIL‑M‑14 types to ASTM D5948 designations.
  • Test plaques/coupons or sample parts for verification when required by your planning.
  • Finishing to print per PO requirements (e.g., machining, deburr, identification/marking).

What this means for buyers:

  • Confidence that legacy MIL‑M‑14 requirements are met under the current ASTM framework.
  • Cleaner audits and faster source inspections with clear documentation packages.
  • Reduced risk of re‑qualification when updating drawings/BOMs from MIL‑M‑14 to ASTM D5948.
Process-Procedure

Client‑ready deliverables:

  • Material Certificate of Conformance (COC) stating MIL‑M‑14 type and/or ASTM D5948 designation.
  • Supplier certificate/test report showing relevant properties per ASTM D5948.
  • Complete trace packet: lot/batch records and inspection data per PO requirements.
